Prepare the Way of the Lord – This Second Sunday of Advent we hear the call in the Gospel to “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low.” This is a vivid reminder that, as God desires to be with us, so must we work to prepare our hearts and our lives to be places where he desires to dwell and that are fitting for his coming. While this preparation can take on many forms, Saint Luke reminds us of one important way, “repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” As Catholics, we repent of our sins and are forgiven in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and Advent, the season of preparation, is a perfect time to celebrate this beautiful sacrament and ready our hearts for the coming of the Lord. This Tuesday, December 11th, The Light Is On For You! at parishes across the Diocese of Pittsburgh from 6:00-9:00pm and priests will be available to hear Confessions. No matter how long it has been since you last went, consider taking this opportunity to prepare your heart this Advent.

THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU! Advent Opportunity for Reconciliation. This Advent season, several churches in the Diocese of Pittsburgh will have their doors open and lights on Tuesday, December 11 from 6:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m. If you have been reluctant to come to the sacrament, have been away for some time or just found it difficult to get to a Saturday afternoon confession time, this is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Christ and His Church. “The Light is On for You! In our parish grouping confession will be heard at St. Christopher Church and St. Peter Church; you’ll feel wonderful just knowing that God loves you and wants you to come and ease your mind.

Christmas Flower Envelopes are in the church pews this Advent season. These envelopes are supplemental to the ones included in the monthly mailing of parishioner contribution envelopes. Please use the Christmas Envelopes for your donation in memory of or in honor of family members and friends whom we remember in a special way during this holiday season. Poinsettias are provided thru the Parish Office for St. Louis Church.

Vino et Veritas A big thank you to all those who attended “ANGELS: who or what are they?” It was standing room only! We look forward to our next discussion. Don’t forget to send your discussion ideas to Father Adam, averona@diopitt.org.

Altar Server Training for current servers and anyone who has received their First Holy Communion will be held on Saturday, December 15th, at 6:30 p.m. in St. Louis Church followed by a pizza social at 7:45 p.m. Fr. Adam asks that all servers attend this training. It is a great privilege to serve at the altar of our Lord and our servers continue to approach their responsibility with reverence and care. This training will give our youth a chance to learn and clarify responsibilities, enhance Mass participation, and get to know Fr. Adam. Did I mention that there would be pizza? Please call Amy Baptiste at 724-637-3912 to help with our preparation for this night.
